150 Years Ago

The Civil War started 150 years ago today. I was in Charleston just a few days ago... visiting my niece. She's fortunate to be interning in Charleston with a very creative couple doing wedding and event photography. Here's her photo and RCC school blog.

We took the ferry boat, Spirit of the Low Country, through the Charleston Harbor over to Fort Sumter. Wonderful visit, great time and memories!

Queens Road

I was out yesterday getting some new shots of this great spring time in Charlotte. The dogwoods have been in bloom all week and they're just beautiful.

Here's a section of Queens Road... pretty street with all the large, tall trees.

Robin Gathering Nest Material

I caught this robin gathering straw for her nest this morning. I love watching the birds in our yard! If I'm lucky, maybe I'll get to see their nest, eggs and babies.

This is a really neat place in uptown Charlotte. Right on the corner of Trade and Tryon Streets. A place to relax and enjoy the fountains.

Here's a young red-tailed hawk from last weekend.  We see him just about every day.  Fun to watch!

We've got about 1/4 inch of ice on everything outside.  Here is my gardenia bush bending over snow and ice covered.  I was going to get out and walk around a lot but decided against it.... I might break my camera!

It's snowing today!  Here's our male red-bellied woodpecker in the snow, perched on the tree.  He has just gotten some food from our feeder and I guess he's storing it in the tree.

McAdenville House

This is one of the homes lit up for Christmas in McAdenville.

Christmastown USA

McAdenville is known for their Christmas lights. This is a must visit place to see all the lights....just roll down the windows, listen to the Christmas music and enjoy!

They've got a small lake in the town, with a fountain and all the trees lit up in lights.

Beautiful piano with the Christmas decorations reflected. This was inside the Daniel Stowe Garden visitor center last year.

Arch Fountain

This is the Arch Fountain at Daniel Stowe Gardens at Christmas.  You can walk under the water!  The gardens are a beautiful place to see Christmas lights.  This shot was taken last year.

Orchid Christmas Tree

This is the Orchid Christmas Tree at Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens (last year) in Belmont, NC.  The tree is made up of live orchids that are just beautiful!
