Christmastown USA

Plan to visit McAdenville this year!  If you haven't been already, it's a great place to go see the Christmas lights.  This is the small lake at the center of town that they have all the trees lit up and the fountain in the middle.

Sawfish

One of my favorite fish from Ripley's Aquarium!  So neat looking.

Sawfish are closely related to rays. Cool looking fish that uses their snout to poke around for food and cutting up schools of fish into bite size pieces.

Lazy Hummingbird

This hummingbird has been around our place for most of the summer.  I was just getting ready to throw away the spider flower and noticed that he has started perching on the stems.

He's gotten lazy and just sits there and enjoys the flowers!

Where are the Hummingbirds??

In Charlotte, we have only two hummingbirds and they're not here often. We usually have more than this. We've had our feeders up and I've got lots of flowers that they like.

In the mountains, we had quite a few to the feeder.

Doesn't seem to be as many around this year.

It looked like this anole had stopped to say a prayer in front of my little church birdhouse... maybe that the hawk didn't get him this winter.

Country Church

This is a cute little church in the mountains, near our family home.

I love the red roof with the church painted white. In the foreground, the dogwoods are in full bloom.

Traffic Jam

Coming back to Charlotte, we were at a complete standstill on I26. Jack-knifed truck blocking both lanes. We waiting for an hour and forty minutes! I think that's the longest I've ever waited on traffic to move.

It's a good thing I like to read and had plenty of books!

Pearson's Falls

Near Tryon, North Carolina. The watershed was good since they've had a lot of rain this spring.

Pearson's Falls

I just visited Pearson's Falls near Tryon, NC. In the Blue Ridge Mountains, named after Charles William Pearson who scouted the area for what later became the Southern Railroad.

Great trail and easy walking to the falls! It's cared for by the Tryon Garden Club and it'll cost you $5.00 each to see the falls. Plenty of picnic tables and places to eat, rest and just enjoy the views.

The Civil War started 150 years ago today. I was in Charleston just a few days ago... visiting my niece. She's fortunate to be interning in Charleston with a very creative couple doing wedding and event photography. Here's her photo and RCC school blog.

We took the ferry boat, Spirit of the Low Country, through the Charleston Harbor over to Fort Sumter. Wonderful visit, great time and memories!

Here are a few scenes of the Fort Sumter tour.

Robin Gathering Nest Material

I caught this robin gathering straw for her nest this morning. I love watching the birds in our yard! If I'm lucky, maybe I'll get to see their nest, eggs and babies.

It is wet, rainy and cool here today.
